Board of Directors

As PVS is both a public school and a non-profit organization, it is governed by a board of directors. The PVS board consists of up to 13 volunteers: including faculty representatives, parents, and members of the broader community.

The board is responsible for the legal and financial management of the school as an organization, while the Executive Director oversees the day-to-day operations.

The board holds open public meetings the third Thursday of every month. Typically these meetings are being held on zoom.  We encourage all interested community members to attend. You are welcome and we provide a period devoted to public comment during each meeting. The zoom meeting links are shared via school community wide email the Sunday prior to each meeting, and are also posted in the left hand column of this page.

The board carries out its work through committees, and we are always welcoming new members. Below are brief descriptions of this year’s committees, along with their meeting schedule. Anyone interested in serving on one is encouraged to attend a meeting or contact the committee chair.

Portland Village School Board of Directors Seeks New Members
The PVS Board of Directors serves the school community by overseeing the fiscal, legal, ethical, and executive director leadership to ensure the long term sustainability of the organization. We work collaboratively with the school’s Executive Director and staff to promote the school’s education, equity, mission and strategic goals. PVS’s mission is: To advance a public Waldorf education that teaches respect and reverence by developing the head, heart, and hands of children from all backgrounds and cultures.

The Portland Village School Board of Directors is now recruiting for new board members. We seek members who can bring a diversity of perspectives, skills and experiences to the school’s leadership and oversight.  Through Board service, school and community members can participate in initiatives that directly impact and support the school and its mission. We ask that Board members commit to a term of two years and that they attend monthly public Board meetings as well as assist in work groups and/or committees that help to advance specific projects. There are also occasional meetings for trainings, strategic planning, and emergency sessions to respond to urgent needs.  The work requires collaboration with other dedicated individuals: Board members, the Executive Director, Oregon State Board Association, teachers, staff, parents, Village Association Board and staff,  and outside community members.  Board service provides an exciting opportunity to both apply and expand on your skills, knowledge, and experience.  We welcome those who are passionate about shaping the future of a school that offers an inclusive and equitable Waldorf education for our children. We seek individuals with interest and experience in the following areas:

Financial: organizational oversight and financial planning, nonprofit  book-keeping, capital campaign

Fundraising: capital campaign, alumni relations, general fundraising experience

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion: experience to support PVS equity goals
