Middle School Math Teacher at Portland Village School (Part-Time/.5)

The Portland Village School seeks a collaborative, equity focused, teacher to join our school
community. Portland Village School (PVS) is a public school of choice in the Portland Public
School District, serving approximately 415 students in grades K-8. As a full member of the

Our educational program is designed with a rigorous curriculum that is rich in literacy,
language, history, and cultural studies combining real world experiences and applied
knowledge. We offer an engaged school community with supportive and interactive parents and
a caring and reflective staff committed to providing a joyous, reverent, child-centered education
to all.
The Middle School Math Teacher will be a trained and experienced educator, with demonstrated
academic achievement in mathematics. They will demonstrate and model the qualities of
collaboration, energy, initiative, empathy, and flexibility. They will work in partnership with
middle school faculty and administration to create a dynamic middle school math program that
meets all students, inspires a love for the subject, and teaches students the skills they will need
to succeed in rigorous math programs in high school and beyond. The Middle School Math
Teacher will be comfortable teaching large classes, as well as feeling confident in a virtual
setting, with a variety of learners and will excel at classroom management and communication.
They will be comfortable representing the benefits of Waldorf-inspired approaches to math to
current and prospective parents, as well as representing the program in school publications.
The Middle School Math Teacher’s responsibilities will include the following:
● Teach Math in grades 6-8
● Communicate consistently with middle school students and parents on student progress
● Work closely with faculty and administration to strengthen the middle school math
program and foster confidence in parents and students
● Provide regular updates, individual student progress and assessment of students to the
students and applicable class teachers
● Inspire a love for math
● Submit student progress reports and complete student high school applications for all
applicable students when due
● Participate in professional development, mentoring, and performance evaluation
activities as required
● Support students and families in preparing for high school
● Actively participate in the life of the middle school, attending assemblies and plays and
other after-school activities
● Attend faculty meetings and perform regularly scheduled duties outside of teaching, as
● Facilitate appropriate math enrichment opportunities for middle school students
● Collaborate with CARE committee to ensure all students are optimally learning
The Portland Village School seeks candidates who have demonstrated successful math teaching
in a middle school context, who demonstrate an infectious love for math, and have a
commitment to Waldorf-inspired education, racial justice and honoring the lives of middle
school children with respect, attention, curiosity, and humor.

Salary range: $42,000 to $56,000 - prorated to .5 equivalent
