April 3rd, 2008 -- We open our library! Opening Day features a beautifully refurbished library, over 300 books, and many enthusiastic students and parents. The library will be open on Thursdays from 1:45 - 4 pm. Hours will be added as demand and volunteer librarians come forward.

September 29th, 2007 -- Over 150 PVS families and friends attended the School Opening Ceremony and Harvest Festival on Saturday, September 29th, 2007. The weather cooperated and folks enjoyed touring the school, hearing our board president and school co-founder, Steve Correl, describe how the school got started. Portland Public School Board Member Bobbie Regan attended the event, spoke highly of our school, and told the story of how she became the tie-breaker in the vote to approve our charter. At the Harvest Festival Craig -n- Tater played bluegrass music, Lucia Mello performed a puppet show, and many families participated in making nature mobiles and fresh cider. In the spirit of celebrating and sharing the abundance of the harvest season, our school collected much needed food for a local food bank and domestic violence shelter.
September 5th, 2007 -- With flowers, music and much excitment, the Portland Village School opened our doors for the first day of school. Over 130 excited students attended. More kindergarteners joined us over the next two days.
August, 2007 -- Throughout the month volunteers helped paint, landscape, sew curtains, and make beautiful wooden desks for the children.
July 10th, 2007 - A new board of directors is elected: Deah Baird, Steve Correl, Lisa Creamer, Pamela Echevario, Sandra Ludeman, Ariana Orton, Kilong Ung, Tammy Wagner, and Joseph Wyatt. Congratulations!
July 7th, 2007 - Over thirty parent volunteers turn out to help paint the classrooms and clear the overgrown side yard for a play area.
July 2nd, 2007 - De La Salle High School moves out -- the school building is now officially ours!
June, 2007 - Our team of volunteer woodworkers make beautiful wooden desks and chairs for the kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade children. More building planned soon!
May 2nd, 2007 - Our second phase of enrollment closes. From here on out enrollment will be on a first come first serve basis.
April, 2007 - We hire our principal, vice-principal and lead teachers!
March 14, 2007 - On March 14th we mail out offers of enrollment (or a notice of your placement on a wait-list) to all who had submitted completed applications in Phase One.
March 5, 2007 - Our first phase of enrollment closes. We have received over 70 applications for our two kindergarten class, over 40 applications for our two first grade classes, and 16-20 applications for each of our 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade classes!
February 3, 2007 - Our first phase of enrollment opens.
December 20, 2006 - Our successful site search is announced in an Oregonian article, Waldorf-style school signs three-year lease.
December 6, 2006 - We secure a site for our school! We sign a lease with the Catholic Archdiocese to rent the historic elementary school building of the Queen of Peace campus at 7654 N. Delaware Avenue.
June 8, 2006—Negotiations complete on charter contract with Portland Public Schools. Contract executed by both parties, authorizing Portland Village School to open in 2007.
May 26, 2006—Due to the challenge of finding a suitable site, Portland Village School decides to postpone opening until September 2007.
February 15, 2006—Enrollment for the '06-07 school year begins.
January 12, 2006—We participated in the Celebrate! Portland Public Schools fair at the Oregon Convention Center.
December 12, 2005—The Board of Education of the Portland Public School District voted to approve the Portland Village School charter application.
November 7, 2005—The PPS Educational Options Committee of the Board of Education voted to recommend our charter application for approval to the full Board of Education.
July 15, 2005—The Portland Village School submitted our charter application proposal to PPS. Once submitted, the charter proposal is subject to evaluation by PPS staff and the PPS Educational Options Committee of the Board of Education.
July 11, 2005—We incorporated as a non-profit public benefit corporation in the state of Oregon.
July 5, 2005—Based on detailed discussions with members of the Eugene Village School, we jointly agreed that the mission and educational foundation of our schools matched closely. We therefore decided to name our school the Portland Village School, and to explore ways to cooperate further in the future.
May 19, 2005—Our founding group was awarded a Charter Schools Title V-B Planning Grant by the Oregon Department of Education. This grant is awarded competitively. The grant provides financial assistance to continue our school design, and to propose and negotiate a charter with our local school district. Once the charter is agreed, the grant assists with detailed planning and initial implementation.
