Open Teaching Positions for 2017-2018

 

Spanish Teacher, Early Elementary Grades

This position is to teach Spanish to students in grades 1-4, who have language classes twice a week. Candidates need to hold a current teaching license, or qualify for Charter School Registration, along with an endorsement in Spanish. Experience with Waldorf Education and pedagogy is preferred.  Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. In addition, teacher receives employer sponsored health and dental insurance. If the teacher is already a member of PERS this benefit continues. If the teacher is new to public education, PERS eligibility becomes activated after 600 hours of employment.  Interested candidates should send a cover letter of interest, resume, and PVS Application Form (website), along with a copy of current license, degree(s), certifications, and professional references, including one from current, or most recent supervisor, to the Principal, Paul Berg (pberg @portlandvillageschool.org).  Finalists will be selected for interviews at school, and the position will remain open until filled. The start date is August 28, 2017.  All teachers must hold current First Aid and CPR Certification, and pass a Criminal Background Check.

 

Music Teacher, Grades 1st - 8th

This position is for a Music Teacher to work with students in grades 1-8, following Waldorf approaches and methods to learning music. Candidates should hold a current state license, and be highly qualified Music Teachers according to federal and state (HQT) requirements. Experience with Waldorf Education is preferred.  In addition to teaching classes, the successful candidate will be expected to provide an after school music activity once a week, either vocal or instrumental, for interested middle school students. Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, along with PERS retirement system, and employer sponsored health and dental insurance. Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, resume, PVS Application Form, copy of current license and credentials, and three professional references, including one from current, or most recent supervisor, to the Principal, Paul Berg, (pberg@portlandvillageschool.org). Finalists will be selected for interviews at school, and the position will remain open until filled.  All teachers must hold current First Aid and CPR certification, and pass a Criminal Background Check.

 

Kindergarten Assistant 

Assistant to the Lead Teacher, working with a Kindergarten class of 22 students. Hours are 8:15-3:15 Monday-Friday, and one weekly meeting with lead teacher or Early Childhood Team. Supports students and lead teacher in all aspects of Kindergarten program. Prefer candidates with prior experience working with students ages 5-7, as well as familiarity with Waldorf approaches to Kindergarten.  Send letter of interest, resume, and copies of degree(s), license(s), and/or certification(s), three letters of reference, plus completed PVS Application Form (website) to Paul Berg, Principal, pberg@portlandvillageschool.org. Substitute Teacher

PVS is building a list of substitute teachers. To qualify as a substitute you must be either state certified or registered with the Oregon Department of Education's Charter School Registry and have some teaching experience in grades K-8. Please include "Substitute Teacher Candidate" in the subject line and email to Paul Berg.  Portland Village School recognizes the worth of all individuals and groups.
